Description:
An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) is a safety device designed to protect people from electric shock and prevent electrical fires. It continuously monitors the balance of current flowing through the live and neutral wires. If it detects any imbalance — meaning current is leaking to earth through a person or fault — it instantly cuts off the power within milliseconds.
This product complies with GB14048.2 "Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - Low-voltage circuit breakers" and IEC60947-2 "Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - Part 2: Low-voltage circuit breakers" standards.
Working principle:An RCCB operates on the principle of current balance monitoring. Inside the device, both the live wire and neutral wire pass through a zero-sequence current transformer (a toroidal coil).
Under normal conditions, the current flowing through the live wire equals the current returning through the neutral wire. These two currents cancel each other out, producing zero net magnetic flux in the transformer, and the RCCB remains closed.
When a fault occurs — such as someone touching a live part or insulation failure — some current leaks to earth. This creates an imbalance between the live and neutral currents. The transformer detects this difference (residual current) and generates a small signal. This signal triggers a solenoid that mechanically releases the latch, opening the contacts and disconnecting the circuit — all within 30 milliseconds.
